About this project
Pop Out Loud is a picture book featuring four snack-themed characters in imaginative, colourful settings. I was responsible for character design, cover art, and interior illustrations, collaborating closely with the author to create a playful, cohesive visual experience.
The story follows Jimmy, the popcorn kernel, as he learns to embrace his sensitivity and big feelings. Written to support highly sensitive children and promote mental wellness, this book serves as a starting point for conversations on emotion and provides a vibrant, fun read for preschool and young school-aged children.
One key challenge was turning snacks into expressive, relatable characters, which I solved through strong facial expressions and body language. The result is a vibrant, dynamic world full of warmth and personality.
"Your project management—WOW. The depth of character and scene development for each sketch blew me away. The entire book wouldn't be what it is without you. From Jimmy's first pop to the cover art, you illuminated my words and brought my vision to life in ways I hadn't even imagined."— Sarita Fichtner, Author of Pop Out Loud
